TOP THINGS TO DO IN ICELAND
Reykjavik
There are plenty of sites to see but the two we enjoyed the most are Rainbow Street and Hallgrimskirkja.
Rainbow Street is a really fun street to explore local and tourist shops as well as enjoy a very colorful street! Rainbow Street runs into Laugavegur street is another great street to window shop as well as dine on.
Hallgrimskirkja is an iconic church for its architecture is pretty incredibly to see. You can pay 1000KR to go up the tower to get a view of the city. Its wonderfully located such that you can grab a fresh cup of coffee and pastry from Braud & Co and walk to this site.
I think its pretty easy to explore the walking sites to see in Reykjavik in a day if your interests align with ours.
Frioheimar
Blue Lagoon
You'll probably find plenty of information on the Blue Lagoon as its a big tourist attraction in Iceland. Its about an hour south of Reykjavik and highly recommend booking your time slot beforehand. We did this directly on their website. We recommend going earlier in the morning, its much quieter with less people around and more room to explore. It is a very touristy experience but hey, why not check it out. Our family enjoyed it!
Kirkjufellsfossar
It was a very long drive to get here, mainly because much of the road is gravel, but it was worth it. The site here is beautiful with two waterfalls and a picturesque mountain in the background. There's a nice cafe, Graena Kompaniio, nearby in a small town called Grundarfjordur that's about ~7 minutes away. Highly recommend stopping there for some warm beverage or a snack and heading to the waterfall site.
Skogafoss
It was a beautiful drive to get to these enormous waterfalls but the day was especially cold and rainy so it was difficult to enjoy the sites for long outside of the car. This is a very well known waterfall in Iceland. But not too far from this waterfall is a wonderful brewery, Smiojan Brugghus, which hosts a good variety of brews as well as food. Highly recommend giving the sours as well as the milk stout a try!
Enjoy your trip to Iceland and hope you get to see an Icelandic horse up close!
